Nissan NV200 – Taxi of Tomorrow in New York
New York City’s fleet the largest taxi in the U.S., Nissan has chosen to design and manufacture the next generation of taxi cab tomorrow. NV200 has been there since 2013.
New York is looking into a new era of urban mobility and Nissan in Japan has chosen to design and produce the next generation of taxis: “The taxi of tomorrow”, which will replace the current standard yellow.
Taxi and Limousine Commission of New York City (MCC) has decided that the NV200 will be the exclusive vehicle fleet of taxis in New York since late 2013, after a rigorous selection process that lasted more than two years.
NV200, which is built on the Nissan plant in Cuernavaca, Mexico, will be transparent ceiling, LCD, GPS and mobile charger. This is a modified version of Nissan NV200 compact utility vehicle, currently available in Japan, Europe and China.
About the “Taxi of Tomorrow”
In 2007, New York City officials met with a group composed of representatives of taxi drivers, taxi owners and users to define a new objective of the New York taxi, in a project known as taxi tomorrow. In December 2009, TLC is inviting car manufacturers and engineers to present their best ideas for a new car designed specifically for the taxi from the city of New York. At the end of the evaluation process, we chose the Nissan NV200, New York will become a taxi for the next ten years, in 2013
