By special arrangement with the directors and producers, SFERA would like to invite you to meet the film director Helga Landauer during the special screening of the documentary "A Journey of Dmitry Shostakovich".
Helga Landauer (Olshvang) was born in Moscow, Russia. In 1990, she graduated from Russian State Film School (VGIK) with a Bachelor's Degree in Screenwriting. In 1993, she received a Masters of Fine Arts degree in Film Studies. In 1996, she moved to US and currently resides in Palo Alto, CA.
Helga Landauer is a talented poet, writer, and a filmmaker. Her latest film "A Journey of Dmitry Shostakovich" had premiered at Carnegie Hall in November 2006. Since then, the film has been screened at the Louvre Auditorium in Paris, and has been officially selected to film festivals in Canada, Australia, Holland, USA, Estonia, Thailand, Spain, Czech Republic, and Great Britain.
-"The greatest composer of the 20th century remains one of its biggest mysteries. Nine days of the ocean voyage from Moscow to New York comprise the nine chapters of this documentary film about Dmitry Shostakovich. Unique, highly personal fragments of the composer's life are contrasted with the ideologically charged propaganda of the Soviet liner's staged shipboard events. The film reveals the personality of the quiet, retiring man who disliked publicity but was obliged to serve as a Soviet public figure; a genius faced with the choice between artistic freedom and harsh ideology, between truth and survival. Shostakovich's music, full of dark sarcasm and breathtaking lyricism, exaggerated joy and frightening celebration, plays the leading part in the film "-
The film screening of "A Journey of Dmitry Shostakovich" will take place in the Connection Room (Ste 100) of the Silicon Valley Community Foundation located at 1700 S El Camino Real, San Mateo on Monday, June 23rd (plenty of free parking).
